Robert Mead

Robert Smith Mead, 95, of Roxbury, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Andrew Gray, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 2, 1913, the son of Smith and Katherine Depew Mead. He married Hazel Hinkley on December 5, 1931. She predeceased him on January 29, 2006 after 74 years of happiness.


Viola Yates

Viola A. Yates, 81, of Broomfield, Colorado, formerly of Roxbury Run, Denver, NY, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Broomfield, Colorado. She was born in Brooklyn January 12, 1927, the daughter of Frank and Ella (Schmitt) Heinrich. She married John F. Yates on November 11, 1961 at Glendale, NY.


Carol Shaver

Carol S. Shaver, 70, a resident of Margaretville, died Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital. She was born at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital on January 1, 1938, the daughter of Elton and Marjory Elizabeth (Chapell) Shaver.
She was a graduate of Margaretville Central School.


Loretta Miller

Loretta A. Miller, 87, a longtime resident of Margaretville, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Margaretville Memorial Hospital. She was born March 1, 1921 in Manhattan, the daughter of Robert and Bridget Killeen Lee. She married Edward Miller April 8, 1939.


Marian Connell

Marian Louise Connell, 97, of Margaretville, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Margaretville. Surviving are Trudy Klapper, a dear friend; a sister, Constance Connell McNeilly; nieces, Marian Louise McNeilly and Kathleen McDonough and a nephew, R. Scott McNeilly and his wife Sharon Goodman. Also surviving are other nieces and nephews.


Scott Mayer

Scott Neering Mayer, 72, husband, father, grandfather and mentor, a longtime resident of Manchester Center, Vermont, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at his home in Manchester, VT, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was born in Springfield, IL to Hank and Ada Mayer on July 6, 1935.
His family moved to Vermont in 1946 and then later to New York where his father was employed on the East Delaware Aqueduct. They lived in Shavertown, NY.


Francis McArdle

Francis “Frank” J. McArdle died Monday, June 2, 2008 in Rochester. He was born May 30, 1920. Surviving are his sons, Peter, Andrew (Kimberly), and James McArdle; grandchildren, Emily Rose, Hannah, Ian and Krista and a brother, John (Joyce) McArdle.


Josephine Sprague

Josephine Sprague, 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the home of her daughter, Brenda Fehsal in Arizona. She was born January 8, 1939.
Surviving are her husband, Gregg of Andes; six children, Brenda (Ray) Fehsal, Arizona, Anita (Dennis) Blockburger, Salem, Irvin Tifft, Steve (Tammy) Tifft, Tina Tifft and Michele Tifft, all of Bennington, VT.


Robert Tompkins

Robert K. Tompkins, 80, a longtime resident of Downsville, passed away early Friday morning, June 6, 2008, at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi, after a long illness. He was born in Gregorytown on October 18, 1927, the son of the late William and Flora (Foote) Tompkins. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at construction in the Downsville area.


Francis Herr

Francis John Herr, 78, passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 4, 2008 at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi after a courageous battle with cancer. Fran was born on February 15, 1930 in Hoboken, NJ, the son of the late Henry William and Dorothy (Scories) Herr.
