Marcia Faulkner

Marcia Faulkner, 72, of Farmville, Va., (formerly of Arkville and Halcott Center) passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, 2009 after a brief struggle with cancer. She was born in Kelly Corners on July 27, 1936, the daughter of the late George and Gladys Krom. Marcia worked as a nurse at Margaretville Hospital and at Holly Manor in Farmville, Va., retiring to enjoy her walks, flowers and wind chimes.


Richard Slack

Richard Slack lacked a middle name. “It was supposed to be Foster after mom, but the people at the hospital forgot to write it down on my birth certificate.” Richard Slack, 73, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009 in Cumming, Ga., of respiratory failure at Northside Hospital-Forsyth. Per Richard’s request, there will be no service. “There is nothing that anybody can do.” Although his teeth were false, his smile was genuine—his million dollar smile—his greatest asset.


Michael Hoeko

Michael E. Hoeko, 91, of Fleischmanns, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at Margaretville Memorial Hospital. Margaretville. He was born September 29, 1917 in New York City to Nickolas and Katherine Hoeko. He married Ann Owens on June 4, 1950, in Phoenicia.


Aldea "Mim" Purcell

The close-knit Catskill towns of Roxbury, Margaretville and Andes are deeply saddened by the loss of a beloved woman long recognized as a pillar of the community, “Mim” Purcell. She died Monday, March 9, 2009 at Margaretville.
Aldea Hermina Purcell was born in North Adams, Massachusetts on January 19, 1914, the daughter of Hector Heroux and Mary Jane Lanoue.


Anne Bellows

Anne B. Bellows, 82, of Quakertown, previously of Daytona Beach, FL. died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 in her home. She was the loving wife of the late Clifford Bellows.


Dorothy Holthusen

Dorothy Meeker Sayre Holthusen, 88, died Monday, March 2, 2009 at her home in Sea Girt with her family in attendance.


Diana Halpern

Diana Collins Halpern, 71, longtime resident of Roxbury and Margaretville, died Monday, Feb. 16, at her home in Anthony, New Mexico.


Gary Wickham

Gary Albert Wickham, 68, a native of Halcottsville, slipped away quietly from us on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. He leaves behind a loving wife, Gwendolyn and an ever growing and emerging family.


John Haney

John E. Haney, 78, of Grand Gorge died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009.
He was born in Yuma, Az., and lived a life of travel, adventure and romance.
John first traveled, thanks to the Marine Corps, to Korea and Japan living two years in Hong Kong. John was a decorated Korean War Veteran having earned a purple heart.


Margaret Pickhardt

Margaret “Peggy” Nydia Yost Pickhardt, 89, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville. She was born in Kensington, Philadelphia September 1, 1919, the only child of Sheridan W. and Catherine Coffee Yost.
