George Walling

George J. Walling, 87, of Fleischmanns, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011.
He was born in the Second House in Amagansett, Long Island on June 23, 1923, the son of Gladys and George Walling.

After graduating from East Hampton High School, George joined the Army in 1941. He was in the 106th Infantry and then moved into the 94th where he served in France and Germany alongside his brother, Bill, during WWII. After the war, George and his brothers moved into New York City, where they lived, worked and played.

Joan Geidel

Joan R. Geidel, 80, of Bonnie View Avenue, Pine Hill, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at her residence.
She was born March 4, 1931 in Flushing, the daughter of the late William and Betty Rose Geisler.

In the 1970s she had been a registered nurse at O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.
Joan was a member of the Margaretville Hospital and the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hurley.
She had been a resident of Pine Hill for approximately 20 years. Joan enjoyed gardening, letter writing and helping people.

David VanValkenburgh

David A. VanValkenburgh, 44, of Ocala, FL, died Saturday. March 12, 2011 in Ocala.

He was the son of Randy and Janet VanValkenburgh and a native of Roxbury. He was born in Oneonta on August 15, 1966. David was a graduate of Roxbury Central School. While living in Roxbury he worked for Hinkley Electric.

Surviving are his wife, Melanie Woch and their two children, a son Randal, six and a daughter, Katlyn, nine; a brother, Daniel VanValk-enburgh and his mother, Janet.
A memorial service will be held April 2 at 6 p.m. in the First Congregational UCC Church in Ocala, Florida.

James Davis

James Robert Davis, 83, of 807 Watford Place in Murrell’s Inlet, SC, passed away Sunday evening, March 13, 2011 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, NC.

Mr. Davis was born March 10, 1928 in Andes, the son of the late William Smith Davis and Ethel Wight Davis.

He was a World War II Army veteran and a retiree of Middleburgh, NY School System as Director of Pupil Personnel Services.

William Taylor

William H. Taylor, 83, of the Village of Andes, passed away Friday, March 11, 2011, at the Margaretville Hospital and had been a resident of the Mountainside Residential Care Center of Margaretville for the past six months.

Mr. Taylor was born August 16, 1927, on the family farm in Andes, the son of William and Annie B. (Ruff) Taylor.

He married Mary Stewart on June 29, 1949, in Margaretville. Mrs. Taylor died in 1996.

June Banner

June E Banner, 81, of Pine Hill, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011 at her residence in Pine Hill.
She was born July 6, 1929 on Staten Island

.June was employed as a telephone operator in Clover City, CA and later worked as a waitress for restaurants on Staten Island For the last few years she lived with her daughter in Pine Hill.

Surviving are her daughter, Pamela Banner and future son-in-law, Malcolm Haight of Pine Hill; two sisters, Jean McGovern and Patricia McClaren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Susan Goodin

Susan (Finch) Goodin, 60, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. Susan took the stairway to Heaven to be with the Lord.

She lived in Arkville for many years.
Susan drove bus for ARC. She was loved by everyone who knew her and was remembered for her smile.

She will be dearly missed, and holds a special place in the hearts of all who knew her.
Surviving are her husband, Ivan Goodin, of Indiana; four children, Bradley, Vicki, Dawn and Brian; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Claude Little

Claude William Little, 86, a resident of Providence Place, Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Clifton Heights, PA, passed into eternal rest at 2:55 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 in Providence Place, after a brief illness.

He was born June 18, 1924 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late William and Alice E. (Voorhees) Little.

He was employed as a Rules Examiner/Labor Relations for the Pennsylvania Rail-road/Penn Central/Conrail for 49 years retiring in 1990.

Francis Conklin

Francis Wayne Conklin, 72, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.
He was born November 1, 1938 in Turnwood, the son of Kenneth P. and Ruth L. Conklin.

He served in the NYS National Guard.
Francis worked for the Ulster County Highway Dept. and also worked at the Harris General Hospital and as a caretaker for the Hunting & Fishing Club in Turnwood.

He was a resident of Countryside Care Center since November 17, 2008.
Surviving are a son, Francis Kenneth Conklin of Margaretville and two grandchildren, Sebastian and Mercedes Conklin.

Dolores Hubbell

Dolores V. Hubbell, 80, of Margaretville, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. She was born August 30, 1930 in Margaretville, the daughter of Carroll and Evelyn (Young) VanBenschoten.

She married William A. Hubbell on December 26, 1951. He died October 7, 1999.
