Christopher Russell Wil-liams, 53, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009 in Syracuse after a long battle with ALS. He was born in Islip September 28, 1955, grew up in Margaretville and settled in Syracuse with his wife, Denise.


Chris Schroeder

Chris R. Schroeder, 52, of the Town of Hardenburgh, Margaretville, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009 at his residence. He was born Nov. 5, 1956 in Staten Island, the son of Robert and Edna (Helt) Schroeder.
He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1970 and attended SUNY Delhi studying computers.


George Griffin

George Donald Griffin, 87, of Williston, Fla., passed away on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 at Haven Hospice Care Center, Chiefland, Fla., following a few years of declining health. He was born January 7, 1922 in Margaretville, the son of Omar and Fannie Griffin.


Joan Asher

Joan Asher, 84, formerly of Dry Brook Road, Arkville, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital where she had been employed from 1949 to 1999.
She was born August 27, 1925 in Barberton, Ohio the daughter of the late Allen and Ada Haynes Crumling.


Lance Callan

Lance B. Callan, 65, of Stamford, passed away peacefully Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009 at his home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Starksboro, Vt., on September 19, 1943, the son of the late Rachel (Paradee) and Thomas Callan.


Howard Rose Jr.

Howard A. Rose Jr., 67, of Grand Gorge, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009 at Robinson Terrace, Stamford, after fighting a battle with cancer.
He was born September 21, 1941, in Roxbury, the son of Howard T. and Daisy Moore Rose.
He was married to Doris Davis and then Gloria Hammond in Roxbury.


Josephine Turner

Josephine Mary Turner, 77, of Oneonta passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 at the home of her son surrounded by her family.
She was born May 22, 1932 in Prattsville, the daughter of the late Earl Sr. and Erma (Jones) Moore.


Fred Stabbert, Jr.

One of the most respected community leaders in Sullivan County, Fred W. Stabbert Jr., 81, of Callicoon passed away peacefully at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris on Monday morning, August 10, 2009, surrounded by his loving family following a short illness.


Thomas Phillips

Thomas J. Phillips of Denver, N.Y. passed away on Friday, August 7, 2009. He was formerly of Closter, N.J. He was a retired captain of the Closter, N.J. Police Department and a life member and Ex-Chief of Closter Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years. He founded the Closter Junior Volunteer Fire Department and was also former captain of the Closter Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Corps.
Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 as radio specialist operator.


Frank Hartung

Frank A. Hartung, 67, of Andes, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009, at his residence.
He was born April 1, 1942 in Jueterbog, Germany.
He married Doris Morschhauser on May 15, 1973, in Astoria, Queens.
He moved to Andes in 1995 from Astoria.
