Benjamin Chipman

Bemjamin Chipman, 92, passed away in Delray Beach, Florida on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2011 after a short illness. He had been a dialysis patient for 18 years.

He was born September 17, 1919 in Salem, Massachusetts, the son of the late Jacob Chiplovitz and Ida Podvoritzky Chiplovitz.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia, nee Steinhardt.

Paul Miller

Paul E. Miller, 91, of Mt. Pleasant Rd., Walton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2010 at home.
He was born May 30, 1920 on the family farm in Mundale, the son of Floyd and Edith (Easson) Miller.

He graduated from Walton High School. Paul married Kathleen “Katie” Kilpatrick on August 11, 1946.

William Mugford

William Mugford, 102, of Big Indian died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

He was born June 17, 1909 in Wilkes Barre, PA, son of the late William and Esther Steiner Mugford.

Bill worked as an operator at Refined Sugar & Syrup of Yonkers for 25 years, having retired at age 65.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII, and was a member of the Phoenicia American Legion Post #950.

Marie Geoghan

Marie Corrigan Geoghan, 93, of Kingston, formerly of Fleischmanns, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston.

She was born December 25, 1917 in Brooklyn, the daughter of John and Julia (McCormack) Corrigan.
She married Henry Vincent Geoghan August 10, 1940 at Resurrection-Ascension Church, Rego Park. He died January 11, 1999.

Marie was a member of the Rosary Society of Saint Andrew Avellino Parish, Flushing and of the choir of Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville.

She spent the last years of her life happily crocheting over 300 blankets for the Red Cross.

Liberta M. Jaeger

Liberta M. Jaeger, 85, died Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at Edwards Hospital in Illinois.

A native and lifelong area resident, she was born February 17, 1926 in Allaben, daughter of the late Russell and Myrtle Bush Frasier Sr.

Liberta was a hard and dedicated worker, who spent many years along with her husband, working at Timber Lake Camp in Shandaken. She appreciated the beauty of nature, loved the outdoors and was a longtime hunter in the Catskills. Later in life she and her husband, Robert would winter in Florida.

Don Kelder

Don Howard Kelder, 93, of Margaretville, formerly of Fleischmanns, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

He was born June 29, 1918 in Pine Hill, the son of Russell Kelder and Helen Maude Beizee

Don served in the U.S. Army as chief mechanic; he served in Germany and France.
He married Charlotte May Stevens. She died April 25, 2006.

Don was a self-employed mechanic in Fleischmanns and operated Kelder’s Garage for many years. He was also a truck driver for several area businesses.

Matilda Storey

Matilda “Tee” (Turner) Storey of Sidney, formerly of Margaretville, died on October 31, 2011 at the age of 90.  

She was predeceased by her husband John, a son John, her brothers Edward and Francis Turner and two nieces, Kathleen Turner and Barbara Bouton.

Surviving are three sons; Steve of Sidney, Matthew of Stamford and Keith of Davenport Center, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a niece, Judith Turner of Arkville.

She loved nature, children, art, books, homemaking, baking, making hooked rugs, gardening, and many other aspects of life in general.

Barbara Cipolla

Barbara Cipolla, 66, of Margaretville, passed away Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 at Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville

She was born April 25, 1945 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Harold F. Meyer and Geraldine Johnson.

Barbara worked at the Cheese Barrel Restaurant in Margaretville.

Surviving are two sons, Gerald and Joseph and a daughter, Geraldine.
Arrangements were by Hynes Funeral Home in Margaretville.
A graveside service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 at the Margaretville Cemetery Annex, Margaretville .

Leona Maffei

Leona Howland Maffei, 92, who lived her life with grace, courage and humor, died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Dorothy, in New Kingston on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011.
She was born on March 24, 1919 in Center Lisle.

Leona graduated from Marathon High School and attended nursing school at Crouse Memorial in Syracuse.
