Janet Andrews

Janet Lock Andrews, 84, of River Bend, NC, died at home on September 30, 2011.  

Janet was born to Dr. Archibald W. and Elizabeth Deihl Lock on November 30, 1926 in Flushing.  A June 1944 graduate of Flushing High School, Janet worked as a dental assistant in New York City and was a dedicated employee of the Andes Hotel.


David Finley

David Paul Finley. of New York City and Margaretville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2011 in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 53.

He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School in 1977 and SUNY School of Performing Arts, Purchase, New York in 1984, where he majored in Lighting Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.


Robert Traver

Robert “Bob”Traver. 81, of Franklin, fell asleep in death on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011.

He was born April 20, 1930 in Margaretville, the son of Eugene and Grace Traver.


Donald Kelly

Donld Kelly, 82, formerly of Margaretville, passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Tucson, Arizona surrounded by his family.

He was born in Margaretville on July 24, 1929 to Douglas and Ina (Sanford) Kelly.
He married Janet Peck on July 12, 1953.

Don spent two years in the U.S. Army based at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. He then owned and operated Kelly Power Equipment, formerly known as Douglas Kelly & Son Farm Machinery on Main Street, Margaretville until selling the business in 1973.


Maurice Davis

Maurice “Mousie” Davis, 81, of Oneonta, formerly of Arkville, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2001 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born in Shavertown July 31, 1930, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Norris Davis.
Maurice was a 1949 graduate of Andes Central School. He married Marie M. Shaver on December 1, 1950 at the Margaretville Methodist Church. She passed away June 7, 2010.


Roger Baust

Roger Francis Baust, 64, a resident of Fleischmanns, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011 at Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville.

He was born May 20, 1947 at Flushing, the son of John and Frances (Kress) Baust.

Roger graduated from high school in Massapequa and received his bachelor and master’s degrees from Brockport State College.

He had lived in the Fleischmanns area most of his life and operated a Christmas Tree business and also did other types of work.

Surviving are a brother, John and sister-in-law, Judith Baust; a sister, Marsha and brother-in-law, Robert Lonergan.


Marilyn France

Marilyn Elizabeth France, 85, formerly of Pine Hill , Santa Barbara, CA. and Saugerties passed away August 25, 2011 at her home in Saugerties surrounded by the love of her daughters and family.

She was born in Providence, RI on June 25, 1926 to Eric and Gertrude Johnson. Marilyn was employed as a NY Telephone switchboard operator, a secretary at Onteora Central School and a broker’s assistant in Santa Barbra, CA. 


Kyra VanLeuvan

Kyra Bell VanLeuvan, infant daughter of James P. VanLeuvan and Mindy R. Robbins of Kingston, died at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck on Wednesday Aug. 31, 2011.

Kyra is also survived by; maternal grandparents, Tammy Robbins of Accord, Bradley A. Robbins of West Hurley, paternal grandparents, Christine VanLeuvan of Kingston, James VanLeuvan of Kingston, maternal great-grandmother Margaret Wolfeil of Accord, Regina Robbins of Moundsville, West Virgina, paternal great-grandparents Audrey and Peter Devereaux of Poughkeepsie. Many aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.


Erwin Gordon

Erwin “Gordy” Gordon, 82, of Mill Street, Pine Hill, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2011 at the Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

An area resident for the past 35 years, he was born July 10, 1929 in Corydon, PA. He was a former resident of Salamanca, and was the last living descendant and Chief of the Corn Planter Tribe. Gordy was active in Native American events, and was a respected speaker and educator at area schools, community centers and service organizations.


James Elliot Sr.

James William Elliott Sr., 87, of new Kingston, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20 2011 at the Margaretville Hospital, Margaretville.

He was born November 24, 1923 on the family farm in New Kingston, the son of James Thomas and Marion (Long) Elliott. He operated this farm until his health made him semi-retire.

Bill was a graduate of Margaretville Central School and attended Cornell University.
He married Elizabeth Day June 14, 1947 at the Presbyterian Church in Canandaigua.
Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Force where he was a flight engineer and gunner on the B-17.
