Obituaries

Clive George MacDonald, 66, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at his home in Arkville surrounded by his family and friends. The cause of death was cancer.

Born July 8, 1945 in Coventry, England, the son of George and Kathleen (Northover) MacDonald, he moved to Canada with his parents and three of his five brothers in 1951. The family then moved to Long Island in 1957 where he attended Farmingdale High School.

Clive served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1969 as an electrician on the aircraft carrier Kearsage. He married Elizabeth Kuless Shaw in 1990.

Julie M. Manon, 45, of Margaretville died Friday, May 4, 2012 at Albany Medical Center from injuries due to an ATV accident in the Town of Andes.

Julie was born November 18, 1966 in Delhi, the daughter of Joseph and Frieda (Sprague) Manon.
She enjoyed fishing, hunting and walking.

Julie is survived by her mother, Frieda Manon of Fleischmanns and her father, Joseph Manon of Arkville; brothers, Bucky and Howard Manon; sister Mary Eignor; brother-in-law, Wesley Eignor; sister-in-law, Victoria Manon and by nieces and nephews.

Ruth Ella Hunter, 71, of Unadilla died at Bassett Hospital in Coopers-town  on April 30, 2012.
Ruth was born on October 14, 1940 in Margaretville Hospital to Bert and Ella A(Mayes) Hunter. Ruth was raised in the Vega Valley in Roxbury, and graduated from Roxbury Central School in 1961. In life Ruth was definitely a Catskill

Mountain original character and will not be forgotten by anyone who met her, however briefly.
Ruth worked for Audio Sears on the assembly line in electronics in Stamford.

Catherine A. Hatch, 87, of Delhi passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

She was born July 14, 1924 in Peekskill, the daughter of Albert and Catherine (Rogers) Bauer.
Catherine married Carlton Hatch and they lived in Margaretville from 1948 to 1952 on Route 28. The house was later torn down and the lot is now under the roadway from Route 28 to Mountainside Residential Care Center.

Glenn V. Cole Sr., 88, of Andes, died at his residence on Thursday April 26, 2012.
Glenn was born on February 6, 1924 in Bovina, the son of Harold and Alida Cole. He married Gwendolyn (Reynolds) on November 24, 1945 at Lisle.

Winfield M. Hinkley, 82, of Grand Gorge passed away peacefully at his home on April 23, 2012 after a long illness.

He was born on September 19, 1929 in Roxbury. Wink graduated from Grand Gorge Central School in 1947 and attended Ithaca College until 1949. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.

Wink began his employment at the family garage, W.S. Hinkley & Sons, Inc. He then became president after the passing of his dad, Winfield Scott Hinkley, in 1955 who started the business with his wife, Mary Morse Hinkley in 1929.

Samuel Boice Sr., 64, of Dimmick Mountain Road, Denver, died April 17, 2012 at Kingston Hospital.
Samuel was born May 23, 1947 in New York City, the son of Michael and Florence (Aloti) Boice. He married Asunta (Cerchio) on December 23, 1967 on Staten Island.

Samuel served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970 and was awarded a PurpleHeart and a Bronze Star.  He was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. Before entering the service he worked for Nassau Smelting and Refining on Staten Island.

Colleen Ann Carr, 40, of Gilboa died Thursday April 19, 2012 at the Westchester Medical Center as a result of a brain aneurysm.

She was born December 2, 1971 in Queens, a daughter of Della Sweeney Gartelman of Margaretville and the late Fred Gartelman.  She was a lifetime resident of the Catskill Mountains and a soul mate of her husband Anthony, whom she married in 2004.

Gary L Frasier, 59, of Port Richie, FL, died Tuesday April 3, 2012 at Trinity Community Hospital, Trinity, FL after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

Born March 4, 1952 in Margaretville, he was a son of the late Charles L. and Edith M. Frasier. He grew up in Shandaken, living in Northern New Jersey and most recently in Port Richie, Florida where he lived for the last 17 years with his companion, Susan Chamberlain.

Jean Paul (JP) Rodrigue, 66, of Margaretville died at his home on April 18, 2012.
Born July 9, 1945 at St. Benjamin, Canada, he was the son of Clermont and Jacqueline (Poulin) Rodrigue.

He came to the United States from Canada in 1965. He enjoyed the woods and became a logger and worked in several states doing the work he enjoyed.

He is survived by his fiancée, Marleen Gagnon; his daughter, Angela Fisher, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will take place in St. Benjamin, Canada.
