Primitive Biathlon set for Jan. 17

Shandaken —After 13 previous years of highly successful competition, the Shandaken Primitive Biathlon will be held again on January 17 in Oliverea.

Margaretville — Watershed Education Grant applications are now available from the Catskill Watershed Corp. for projects beginning in the fall of 2010. Schools and nonprofit organizations in the New York City Catskill-Delaware Watershed, and in New York City, are invited to apply.

Catskill residents experienced the first snowfall of the season Saturday evening coinciding with the inaugural “Top Chef” event to benefit the MARK Project with a contribution made to Community Christmas projects. For those hearty souls who braved the inclement weather and treacherous driving conditions, they were rewarded with a night to remember.


Ulster Savings Bank makes $150,000 gift

Kingston — Ulster Savings Bank has announced a charitable gift in the amount of $150,000 as an additional endowment to the Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation. The Ulster Savings Charitable Foundation was created in 2001 in recognition of Ulster Savings Bank’s 150th anniversary to provide funding to organizations and communities in Ulster, Dutchess, and Greene counties in the areas of education, housing, and health and human services.


Reading program is "for the dogs" at Fairview Library

Young readers are invited to a reading program featuring giant Leonberger dogs at the Fairview Public Library on Walnut Street, Margaretville on Saturday, Dec. 5. All are invited to meet the dogs, get to know them and read to them.

Youth basketball signups at MCS

Margaretville Central School will hold signups for its youth basketball program on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 to 9:30 a.m. at MCS. The first practice will immediately follow registration, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and the season schedule will also be distributed.

“Wellness Time,” will make its debut on MTC Cable public access Channel 10 on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. and will be replayed on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. The program features information about Margaretville Hospital, Mountainside Residential Care Center, the Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside and the Auxiliary Wellness Committee.
