Andes hosts open house Saturday at new highway garage

Town of Andes officials will host a dedication and open house on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. to mark the completion of the town’s new highway garage. The garage, which is located on county Route 1 south of the hamlet of Andes, was built using grant and loan funds from the USDA’s Community Facilities program. The garage has been named the Harold C. Grommeck Town Highway Garage after the late Harold Grommeck, a former town board member, in recognition of his tireless work on behalf of the people of the Town of Andes.


Middletown scales back Transfer Station days of operation

The Town of Middletown will no longer operate its solid waste Transfer Station on Mondays, effective Jan. 4. The town board voted unanimously at its November meeting to cut Transfer Station operation to six days as a budget-cutting measure. The move is projected to save more than $14,000 in salary and benefit costs.


Route 28 is not named among unsafe roadways

The New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) has released a report listing the top five percent of unsafe state roads and according to the report none of the highways in Delaware or Ulster county, including Route 28, have made the list.


Couple "bowled" over by visit

New manager takes over at Hanah

Hanah Mountain Resort and Country Club in Margaretville is under new management as of Dec. 1. Replacing former manager Hidekazu Kiyono is new General Manager Toshiyuki Shioya, who began at the start of the month and is very clear about his priorities.

Margaretville — The first annual “Cookies and Caroling” event, which took place in the Commons Building of Margaretville on December 12, was a great success with more than 30 cookie entries from local bakers.


Andes choir to perform Sunday

The Andes Church Community Choir, consisting this year of 36 members from around the area, will be performing “The Mystery and the Majesty” by Joseph M. Martin on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Andes Presbyterian Church.


Bonds authorized for Arkville Water District project

A resolution authorizing nearly $1.8 million in serial bonds to pay for Arkville Water District upgrades was approved December 8 by the Middletown Town Board.
The project to expand and renovate the Arkville Water District was initiated several years ago. Last December, after a series of public meetings, the town board voted to proceed with the project.


Fleischmanns gallery facelift complete

Fleischmanns — Aided by the warm fall weather, John and Gloria Mulloy, owners of property located at 1033 Main Street in Fleischmanns, which houses Art Et Cetera, Zoom Gallery and two apartments, completed their building makeover in record time.  Purchased in the spring, renovations were completed in under six months.
