Nov. 25, 2009: Political correctness is fashionable

in

To The Editor:
We, as a society, are wallowing in an ocean of Political Correctness. It has become fashionable with a few self rightist individuals but as it grows in status it becomes unwritten law within our society, with those who are declared as being not politically correct treated as ignorant and undesirable. PC is a declaration that particular ideas, expressions and behavior, which once was legal, are now frowned upon and those that do not embrace it are to be treated as vulgar bigots.

Nov. 25, 2009: Forests' value can't be overestimated

in

To The Editor:
Many of my friends feel that open land and forests that are ‘undeveloped’ are in effect going to waste. This premise is very misguided and is in reality totally untrue. The reality is that forests and open space are crucial to the survival of man and all other species on the face of the earth.

Nov. 25, 2009: Companies great at public relations

in

To The Editor:
Anyone who read “Chesapeake Energy won’t drill for gas in NYC watershed” (11/4 to 11/10), ought to be concerned about what was not said in this informative article. According to Chesapeake’s spokesperson, the company’s response to environmental pressures against drilling was a “business decision.” Chesapeake’s comment was transparent and admirable. Did you think this was the end of it?

Nov. 18, 2009: Test your water for chemicals

in

To The Editor:
I have always been concerned about the number of cancer diagnosis in the area.  I know that cancer is high everywhere, but here it seems much higher per capita.

Nov. 11, 2009: Stop gas drilling before it's too late

in

 To The Editor:
We all know “surgeons like to cut.” Well, geologists like to drill.
And in this case, shame on them. Shame on the DEC scientists, who know better, and shame on the selfish Cornell geologists who only see dollar signs. Greed is destroying our country and this issue is a perfect example of it.

Nov. 11, 2009: We are very lucky to have our hospital

in

To The Editor:
I am writing to let readers of the Catskill Mountain News be aware of how lucky we are to have Margaretville Hospital in our community. I have been to the emergency room three times in the past two decades and each time I have been treated with good, appropriate and professional care.

Nov. 4, 2009: Human error

in

To The Editor:
I’m writing in response to a letter submitted to the Catskill Mountain News by Randy VanKeuren.
With the wealth of knowledge that Mr. VanKeuren seems to have he must already realize that many items factor into the dispatch of a 911 emergency and errors can and do occur.

Oct. 28, 2009: Keep your head in a hole in the ground

in

To The Editor:
The recent letter from Ed Kirstein is a typical liberal “keep your head in the hole in the ground.” Why are liberals so afraid of Sarah Palin? Is it because she espouses democracy and will be a threat to the existing leftist political regime in power? We shall see!

Oct. 28, 2009: Tragic passing of a fine citizen

in

To The Editor:
The passing of Malcolm Becker is tragic, not just for his family, but for everyone in our region.  He was a really special human being and gave much to this community.

Oct. 28, 2009: Mike, John deserve voters' support

in

To The Editor:
Although the campaign has been low-key, there’s an important election taking place in the Town of Middletown next Tuesday. Residents will select two town board members among three candidates.
