June 23, 2010: Tell us more about CCCD outlook

in

To The Editor:
Julia Green’s article in last week’s paper informs your readers concerning Alan White and the Catskill Center for Conservation and Development’s concern and advocacy for balancing conservation with much needed economic development.

June 23, 2010: Policy needed for police department

in

To The Editor:
After holding discussions with the Margaretville Mayor John VanBenschoten on May 23 regarding village patrolman Harry Fox, it was at John’s direction that the questions that I was asking could only be answered by village trustee Dave Budin. On June 2 I again spoke to the mayor and it was decided that I would be heard at the village board meeting on June 21. At this meeting I was given time to voice my concern over these issues.

June 23, 2010: Interesting theory on soccer origins

in

To The Editor:
Like Brian Sweeney, I am no fan of soccer.
The TV media have been trying to get Americans to love soccer the way we love baseball, football and basketball. That’s not happening!

June 16, 2010: Is Israel doing the right thing?

in

To The Editor:
What is Ms. Margolis, re her letter in last week’s paper, doing to stop the deaths of innocent civilians and American soldiers that are actually being killed on a daily basis by America’s war in Afghanistan?  Rather than put her mind to the actions of her own country, she would rather write letters to the Catskill Mountain News about Israel’s behavior!

June 16, 2010: No harm, no foul in drug disposal?

in

To The Editor:
I am a bit confused by Brian Sweeney’s article last week about pharmaceutical disposal.  The question that confronts the attorney general in this case is “Did Margaretville Hospital break the law with its disposal practices?”  Yes, the law is in place because illegal disposal of medical waste can pollute the drinking water, but is the fact that the DEP found no contamination relevant?  Should the fines be returned?

June 16, 2010: Dangerous line is being crossed

in

To The Editor:
Those who substitute the term activist for the word terrorist cross a dangerous line. The purpose of the flotilla, which flew under the Turkish flag, endeavoring to break the joint Egyptian/Israeli blockade of Gaza was indeed deadly. Yes, deadly in its commitment to supply Hamas with weapons to be used against innocent Israeli citizens.

June 16, 2010: Speak out regarding Comprehensive Plan

in

To The Editor:
Residents (full and part time), businesses and students who care about the future of the Town of Middletown have until July 1 to let the town planning board know how they feel about a draft comprehensive plan for the town.

June 9, 2010: Shandaken farmstand fight is absurd

in

To The Editor:
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry after reading the recent article about regulation of farm stands in Shandaken. Apparently, the busybodies are at it again. Farm stands are as American as apple pie.

June 9, 2010: MCS Dollars appreciates support

in

To The Editor:
Budget cuts affect everyone, but the worst thing is to deprive our children of getting an education simply because they are unable to meet the rising college costs.

June 9, 2010: Find replacements for officials

in

To The Editor:
Do Coast Guard Admiral Mary Landry and the underwhelming Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano work for the oil companies or for the American taxpayer?
