Catskill Mah Jongg Club meets Tuesdays at Roxbury Library

The Catskill Mah Jongg Club meets every Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Roxbury Library.
This year-round social club welcomes new members and provides basic mah jongg instruction on an ongoing basis.

The popular “Nature and Art for Kids” program is open to children ages 8 to 12, August 17-21 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It’s a fun-filled week of crafts and an extraordinary puppet theater, as well as kayaking and a trip to the Butterfly Conservatory. Sponsored by The Roxbury Arts Group (607 326-7908), the week has a suggested donation of $55.


New voting machine tryouts planned around Delaware County

Area voters will have the opportunity to try out Delaware County’s new voting machines on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Middletown Town Hall on Route 28, Margaretville.
The new voting system will also be available for public demonstrations on Monday, Aug. 10 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Roxbury Town Hall on Main Street, Roxbury and on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Delaware County Office Building at 111 Main Street, Delhi.

Young artist opera recital Tuesday at RAG

Roxbury — Eve Gigliotti, a radiant mezzo-soprano and a 2009 member of the Glimmerglass Opera’s Young Artist Program will present a recital featuring works by Purcell, Rossini, Debussy and Bolcom on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Jay Gould Memorial Church, Main St., Roxbury.
The performance, presented by The Roxbury Arts Group, will be followed by a reception in the gazebo of Kirkside Park.

Congratulations to Charles and Helen Faraci who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently. Roy and Debbie Cammer hosted a nice family gathering which included all of the couple’s children, as well grandchildren and siblings of the honored couple.


"Amish Project" debuts at RAG

Roxbury — Actor and playwright Jessica Dickey is bringing her powerful play “The Amish Project” to The Roxbury Arts Group as this summer’s offering from Todd Mountain Theater Project (TMTP).
“The Amish Project,” written and performed by Jessica Dickey, will be at The Roxbury Arts Group August 6-9 and August 13-16. Thursday to Sunday at 8 p.m., Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Her riveting writing and acting recently garnered rave reviews in New York City during a successful run at The Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.


9th Annual Tunament

FUN FOR A GOOD CAUSE — The Ninth Annual Tunament Golf Tournament, named after the late Bill “Tuna” Sanford was held Friday at Shephard Hills Golf Course in Roxbury. The annual event raises money to fund a scholarship for Margaretville Central School graduates in memory of Bill Sanford.


Classical Jam to play at OSBC

Denver — Classical Jam, a vibrant ensemble best known for its engaging and lively presentations for today’s contemporary audiences, thought provoking concert themes, and wide-ranging repertoire from Renaissance dance music and traditional classical works, will perform at the Old School Baptist Church in the Denver Valley on Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m.


Grand Gorge woman has MVCC degree

Melissa M. Pasiecnik of Grand Gorge, daughter of Christine and Stan Thorington and Philip and Jackie Pasiecnik, is a 2003 graduate of Roxbury Central School and a 2006 graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College with a certificate in photography and graphic communication.
