Roxbury — Whet Paint, The Roxbury Arts Group’s (RAG) annual and wildly popular fund-raiser has added some new twists and surprises this year. Re-imagined as Whet Paint/ Inside Out, RAG hopes to emphasize the “plein air” aspect of painting in the open air that has always been at the heart of the event.

Fireworks in Kirkside Park have become a “new” tradition for Roxbury's Turn of the Century Day, and once again the sky will light up at dusk on Saturday, Sept. 4 with a spectacular send-off to summer and “all the agreeable pursuits of 1898.”

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW

Roxbury —After a month of teamwork and planning, the Re-Store Design Challenge is coming to Roxbury this weekend. Three intrepid design teams have only two days to install their creative retail ventures in time to open at noon on August 21.

Nancy Finch attended a picnic gathering held Saturday, Aug. 14 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Standhart in South Gilboa.

It was a get-together of about 20 local people who spend the winter in Florida at Lake Weir Harbor Estates near Summerfield, Fla. The group enjoyed reminiscing and spending time with friends.

Field of Dreams

Roxbury — One of the most extraordinary vocal groups performing roots music today (they were named #1 a cappella group in the U.S. in 2007), Moira Smiley and VOCO, will be at The Roxbury Arts Group’s welcoming venue Old School Baptist Church located in Denver on Sunday, Aug. 22, at 2 p.m.

Roxbury — Roxbury’s celebrated festival of “all the agreeable pursuits” of 1898 on September 4 will be packed into one fun-filled day of vintage baseball, children’s activities, hand crafts, plenty of vintage victuals, spectacular fireworks at dusk, and as always, period fashions. 

Rachel MeckesRoxbury Central School 2010 graduate Rachel Meckes has been awarded the Valedictorian and Salutatorian full-tuition Honor Scholarship at Elmira College in Elmira.

Meckes will join the Class of ’14 as one of 43 valedictorians and salutatorians from across the country to enroll at Elmira this fall.
