Historic postmark offered by New Kingston Post Office

The Postal Service is offering a special pictorial National Historic New Kingston Station Postmark at the New Kingston Post Office starting on Saturday, July 5. The special postmark will be kicked off with a party at the post office on July 5 to honor local artist, Oneida Hammond, who created the picture used in the postmark.

New Kingston Valley Grange held their regular meeting on June 5 with Master Edwin Vermilyea. They voted in Pat Clark as third year executive committee member. Three get well cards were passed around for Bill Ruff, Sandra Greene and Barbara Kapitko. Barbara Clark, activity director for June, will be showing a movie. Please bring dessert for refreshments.

New Kingston Valley Grange held their first meeting of the year since being closed for the winter. The charter was draped in memory of Ron Greene who passed away in December. The Grange will have a bake sale with friends May 10 in Andes for the John Ackerley family.

Barbara Condon returned home Thursday after being in the Fox Hospital in Oneonta since Monday.

Karen Dahlgreen and a friend, of Kerhonkson, visited her parents Doug and Barb Condon Sunday afternoon.

New Kingston hamlet gets historic designation

The hamlet of New Kingston has been officially listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, recognizing its highly intact architectural heritage. The New York State Historic Preservation Office announced its designation late in 2007; the National Register listing was confirmed last week.

Margaretville-New Kingston Presbyterian Church will hold Maundy Thursday services tomorrow with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. and Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. They will be having Good Friday service at 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Margaretville-New Kingston Church met Ash Wednesday and had a lunch of soup, sandwich and cookies. Shirley Davis held a service.
On Sunday they held communion with Shirley. They also honored Aileen Moore on her birthday. After church service family and friends met at her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Pat Moore’s, for refreshments and a birthday cake. It was all a surprise to Aileen.
