Local baseball standout recalls career highlights

I recently read the article about Patrick O’Connell pitching a perfect game last spring. I was given this article by Ron Tweedie. My name is Gene Fix and I graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1963. I played baseball under Coach Glen Reither.


Village Street Fair is Saturday

Margaretville – The 23rd annual Street Fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Main Street in Margaretville. This popular summertime event features vendors offering quilted crafts and fabric items lovingly made, designer sterling silver jewelry, hard to find antiques and collectibles, ever popular country lawn decorations, wooden crafts, and much more.


"Artist and His Work" opens at Longyear

Opening this week at Margaretville’s Longyear Gallery is “The Artist and His Work: A ‘Not Quite’ Retrospective” featuring the paintings of local artist John Hopkins. The Artist’s Reception will take place Saturday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 7 p.m.


"Shirley Valentine" at Open Eye

Margaretville — Willy Russell’s “Shirley Valentine,” winner of two Laurence Olivier Awards, a Drama Desk Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, a Tony Award, and a Theatre World Award comes to The Open Eye Theater in Margaretville on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The show will play Thursdays - Sundays through Sept. 6.


Margaretville hosts Street Fair Saturday, Aug. 29

Free concert Friday evening at amphitheater

Free music concerts “al fresco” in the MARK Amphitheater continue in August, with the “Disciples of Agriculture” appearing this Friday, Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. The concerts are sponsored by the MARK Project with support from the O’Connor Foundation, bringing popular entertainers to the open air performance space next to the Masonic Hall on Margaretville’s Main Street.


Diabetes program at Margaretville

Margaretville — Dr. Amelia Conte-Russian will offer a free presentation on Diabetes Education/Management on Wednesday, Aug. 19 starting at 6 p.m. in Club Med at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.


Public invited to see animals at center visit

Margaretville — Animals from the Bailiwick Ranch and Discovery Zoo will be making a visit to Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville on Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The community is welcome to stop by Mountainside and join residents who will enjoy the visits by the many unusual animals.


Registration still open for MCS universal Pre-K

Registration is still open for the Margaretville Central School District Universal Pre-K (UPK) Program.
All students who will be four years old on or before Dec. 1, 2009 are eligible for the half-day program, which begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.


Margaretville gearing up for fall sports season

The Margaretville Central School fall athletics season will kick off in the coming weeks.
Boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer practice will be held at 8 a.m. starting Monday, Aug. 17. The MCS golf team will hold practices at 11 a.m. at the Meadows on Route 28.
