Festival Opera's 10th anniversary presentation of "Pagliacci" is August 2

“Pagliacci” and Opera Choruses will be presented as the Belleayre Festival Opera celebrates a 10th anniversary opera gala on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 8 p.m at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount. Producer and Stage Director Donald Westwood’s Belleayre Festival Opera will be joined by the Community Chorale of the Catskills, under the direction of Richard Tucker, in presenting Ruggero Leoncavallo’s most famous and popular work, “Pagliacci” (Clowns). The performance will be preceded by famous opera choruses.


Greene Co. resorts feeling blue over "unfair" Belleayre competition

Greene County interests remain relentless in their efforts to put Belleayre Mountain’s finances under a microscope. Last week that county’s legislature adopted a resolution urging Gov. David Paterson to sign a bill establishing an independent commission to examine competition in the state’s outdoor recreation industry.


Stage, TV star Bebe Neuwirth plays Belleayre Music Festival July 26

Highmount, — Broadway and TV star Bebe Neuwirth will perform at the Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount on Saturday, July 26 at 8 p.m.
Bebe Neuwirth is an Emmy and Tony award-winning theater, film and television actress, dancer and singer. After making her Broadway debut in 1980 as Sheila in A Chorus Line, she went on to perform in stage revivals of Little Me, Damn Yankees, and Sweet Charity, for which she won a Tony award.


Bacon Brothers will sizzle at Belleayre Saturday

Kevin and Michael - the Bacon Brothers - bring their rock-n-roll show to the Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount on Saturday, July 19 at 8 p.m.
While the name Kevin Bacon inevitably brings to mind images of a movie star fewer than six degrees from most others, the internationally-known star of such films as Footloose and A Few Good Men has, along with his brother, steadily been making a name for himself in the music world.


Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson bringing "Good Vibrations" to fest

Beach Boys founder Brian Wilson, one of American popular music’s greatest composers, will rock the Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount on Saturday, July 12 at 8 p.m. The Beach Boys took the American music scene by storm in the 1960s, creating some of rock-n-roll’s most memorable tunes. Brian Wilson was the driving force behind the band and his multi-faceted contributions rank among the most important elements of rock music.


Belleayre supporters blast commission idea

Belleayre supporters reacted swiftly to the state legislature authorizing the creation of a commission that will evaluate whether state-owned recreational facilities constitute unfair competition to privately run golf courses, ski centers and camping sites.
With the idea coming from Greene County ski centers Hunter and Windham, whose operators say state-owned Belleayre gets to sell cheap tickets because taxpayers pick up the slack, there’s now a county vs. county battle brewing between Greene and Ulster, with the latter’s legislative chairman calling for a boycott of Hunter and Windham.


Irish Tenor Ronan Tynan joins orchestra to open Belleayre Festival

Irish tenor Ronan Tynan teams up with the Festival Orchestra, under the direction of John Covelli, to open the 2008 Belleayre Music Festival on Saturday, July 5 at 8 p.m. A gala fireworks display follows the concert.
Introduced to international audiences as a member of the Three Irish Tenors, Tynan quickly became known for his unique voice and irresistible appeal.

Belleayre starts construction for adaptive facility

Belleayre Mountain has started construction of a building near Overlook Lodge that will serve as the new home for the fast-growing adaptive snow sports program. Belleayre’s critically acclaimed adaptive snow sports program, that has been generating great reviews from participants, will now have a new handicapped accessible building to house its operation.

Outrage and frustration continue to mount in the Catskill Region following two major announcements impacting Belleayre Mt. Ski Center.
With Greene County officials issuing renewed calls for audits of Belleayre and with the announcement of a major public/private partnership to expand New York State owned and operated Gore Mountain in the Adirondacks, Belleayre supporters coined the phrase ‘economic genocide’ to describe what they see happening locally.
