Fall Festival moves to D&URR for holiday

The 29th annual Belleayre Fall Festival has been moved to the area behind the Delaware & Ulster Railroad on Route 28, Arkville and will be held on Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12.
In partnership with Belleayre Mountain the railroad will offer an exciting array of high quality craft vendors.


Businesses ask DEC boss for Belleayre Mtn. meeting

The man who has been described as the final authority over proposed drastic budget cuts to the state-owned Belleayre Ski Center has been invited to visit the facility and the region next month for a quick lesson on the local economy, and what would happen to it if those cuts were allowed.
This is the latest ripple effect from news two weeks ago that Belleayre faces a difficult season this year due to budget cuts. While no specific figures have been released, staffers and local officials have heard of 181 job cuts, with fewer trails and fewer chair lifts operating


Hundreds of supporters rally to "Save Belleayre"

Locals residents, business owners and employees of Belleayre Mountain Ski Center came out in droves Saturday morning to a rally put on by the Coalition to Save Belleayre, the organization that blew the whistle on what many consider to be life-threatening budget cuts proposed for the state-run facility.


Fall festival leaving Belleayre; will be hosted at Arkville's D&U

Following an announcement last week that the annual Belleayre Mountain Ski Center Fall Festival was being cancelled, the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) quickly followed up with another announcement, saying that the popular event would instead be moved to Arkville.
The 29th annual Belleayre Fall Festival will be held Columbus Day weekend, but at a new location thanks to a partnership announced last week by the DEC and the Delaware and Ulster Railroad. The festival will take place on October 11-12 at the Delaware and Ulster Railroad on Route 28 in Arkville.


State to wield budget ax on Belleayre

State-owned Belleayre Mountain Ski Center might suffer the budget ax this year, experiencing severe cuts to its 2008-2009 ski season operations. Employees, skiers, local business owners and the leadership of the Coalition to Save Belleayre have been scrambling since Friday trying to find out how bad it will be for the mountain come winter.


Lodging & Tourism Association plans party, membership drive

The Belleayre Region Lodging & Tourism Association (BRLTA) will hold its Season Kick-off Party and Membership Drive on Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Overlook Lodge at Belleayre Mountain.
All local business owners are invited to attend the pre-season mixer, which will feature a complimentary “Country Barbecue” and a cash bar. The event will provide guests with the opportunity to renew membership, mingle with people in the tourism industry, and learn more about the benefits associated with BRLTA membership.


Rocker, film star Chris Isaak plays Belleayre Mtn. Saturday

Chris Isaak will bring his unique blend of rock, country and pop tunes to the Belleayre Music Festival stage on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. Isaak’s smooth, haunting vocal style has propelled songs such as “Wicked Game” and “Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing,” to the top of the charts. Over the course of nine albums, he has produced a dozen hit singles.


Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill to play Belleayre Fest in Highmount Saturday

Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill brings his hit-filled show to the Belleayre Music Festival in Highmount on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. Vince Gill is a multiple Grammy award-winning artist who has sold more than 26 million albums. He has earned 18 Country Music Association awards, including two for Entertainer of the Year and five Male Vocalist Awards. He has also won more Grammy Awards than any other male country music artist with 19. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007.


"Two Jazz Diamonds" celebrated at Catskill Mountain Jazz Series

The Belleayre Music Festival celebrates “Two Jazz Diamonds,” a 75th birthday celebration for David “Fathead” Newman and Curtis Fuller, with Cedar Walton, Rufus Reid, Jimmy Cobb and special guests will be held Saturday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. in Highmount. The second weekend of the festival’s Catskill Mountain Jazz Series gets underway on Friday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m. when Ken Peplowski plays the Belleayre Jazz Club.


Ramsey Lewis Trio featured at Jazz Series

Renowned jazz piano great Ramsey Lewis headlines the opening weekend of the Catskill Mountain Jazz Series at the Belleayre Music Festival on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 8 p.m.
New York City-based singer-songwriter, guitarist and producer KJ Denhert has been called a “triple threat force of nature,” and kicks off the series with a show in the Belleayre Jazz Club on Friday, Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. Her urban jazz style sells out the midnight show in one of Greenwich Village’s famous jazz clubs every weekend.
