Dance-a-Thon party planned for April 18

It will be party time when the fabulous Blues Maneuver plays at the third annual Dance-a-Thon on Saturday, April 18 at 7 p.m. at Belleayre Mountain’s Upper Lodge in Highmount. The event is a fund-raiser for the Auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center.


Belleayre Hall of Fame inductees are announced

The Boston Culinary Group this week announced the 2009 inductees to the third annual Belleayre Hall of Fame. Judy Shiner, Bill Hornbeck and Carl Lumbaca have been named to have their portraits appear on the wall in Belleayre’s upper lodge alongside inductees from the past two years.


Special events announced at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center

Highmount — Belleayre Mountain Ski Center has announced the launch of the Midweek Local Business BOGO (Buy One, Get One) that will be good from Jan. 20 through the rest of this skiing and riding season.


DEC prods supervisors for additional resort info

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) officials have begun contacting the leaders in towns and organizations that have a stake in the outcome of the Belleayre Resort review.
The description of those exchanges differ between the supervisors of the two towns most affected by the project, but it appears that both were contacted and interviewed by DEC personnel about the project and how it might affect their respective communities.


Largest first-day crowd in 25 years at Belleayre

Highmount – With over 4,000 skiers and riders enjoying 13 inches of natural powder, Belleayre Mountain opened Friday with the largest opening day crowd in 25 years.
Popular programs including Kidscamp, seasonal workshops and the Nursery, designed to enhance the family experiene at the mountain, require advance reservations that can be made online or by contacting the Belleayre Mountain Sales Department directly at 845 254-5600 ext. 2474.


Ski prospects bright at Belleayre; fresh powder in place for opener

Belleayre Ski Center Superintendent Tony Lanza is in awe of the luck the Catskills’s ski industry is having.
“We’ve got 14 inches of new snow at the top already,” he said Tuesday morning during a snowstorm. “We’re so excited because we’ve got feet and feet and feet of snow up here.”


German Club toasts October celebration

The Catskill Mountains, in all their fall splendor, were alive with the sound of German music Saturday when members of the German-American Club of the Northern Catskills held their ninth annual Oktoberfest at Belleayre’s Discovery Lodge in Highmount.
More than 700 people enjoyed an authentic Bavarian celebration complete with music by Bud Gramer, the Adlers and folk dancing demonstrations by Germania Almrausch.  Bratwurst and Leberkaes were served with homemade potato salad and sauerkraut as well as hot pretzels, Black Forest cake and other German specialties.


Belleayre season plans announced by state DEC

Belleayre Mountain will be open for riding and skiing seven days a week for the 2008-2009 season, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced Monday. Weather and conditions permitting, Belleayre will open the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, Nov. 28, and run through March, operating six lifts and 41 trails and glades.


Fall Festival shifts to D&U for Columbus Day weekend

The folks at Belleayre Mountain want you to know something.
Contrary to popular belief, the ski center’s popular Fall Festival has not been cancelled.
True, it won’t be on the grassy slopes where visitors can stand in awe of panoramic views of the Catskills in full color. But, Belleayre and its new partner, the Delaware and Ulster Railroad (DURR), think they’ve come up with a pretty good alternative.

At press time yesterday the Catskill Mountain News was working to confirm reports that beleaguered Belleayre Mountain Ski Center has had its budget issues resolved and will be fully operational during the upcoming ski season.
“We’ll make an announcement soon,” was all Belleayre Spokesman Yancy Roy had to say Tuesday.
