Leather smithing demos set Saturday at market

Halcottsville — Liza Belle Burke of the “Lost Art of Living” in Margaretville will demonstrate custom leather smithing on Saturday, July 4 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.
The custom crafted sandals and accessories of Liza Belle Leather appeal to both the functional needs of the Catskill locals and the fashion sense of the shopper from the big city.


Artisans' Guild plans farmers' market demos

Halcottsville — The Catskill Mountain Artisans’ Guild will offer a series of artist demonstrations at the “Pakatakan Farmers’ Market” at the Round Barn in Halcottsville on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-noon., beginning June 27.


Halcottsville Grange work gets boost from bank bucks

NBT Bank of Margaretville Vice President Caroljean Finch presented a $1,000 check to help fund the Halcottsville Grange Hall Restoration Project, an ongoing fund-raising effort to support renovations to the Wawaka Grange Hall in Halcottsville.
The hall, which has been a focal point of the Halcottsville hamlet for more than 100 years, was the first home of the Halcottsville Grange #350, established in 1875 as a local lodge of the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry, an educational and political action society for farmers.


Pakatakan Farmers' Market opens Saturday

Halcottsville — The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market, held at the historic Round Barn in Halcottsville, opens on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market, which is starting its 18th season, operates every Saturday through mid-October. Admission is free. Special events will be planned throughout the season.


Replacement work begins on Halcottsville bridge

Work began Monday morning on the controversial and long-delayed replacement of a bridge that carries the Bragg Hollow Road over the East Branch of the Delaware River in Halcottsville. The bridge and its replacement have been the subject of much dissent over the course of the past year and even earlier, as Middletown Supervisor Len Utter said that plans to replace the bridge have been on the table since as far back as 1996.


Man found dead near Halcottsville after police search from air, ground

A 41-year-old Michigan man was found dead Friday afternoon near Halcottsville, following a search by New York State Troopers and Roxbury Police Officer Steve Williamson.

Deer rescued after fall into lake

Four deer were rescued from the icy waters of Lake Wawaka in Halcottsville Sunday afternoon. The deer were spotted stranded in the lake shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday. Forest Ranger Joe Bink was among the first rescue workers on the scene.


Holiday Market planned Saturday at Round Barn

Halcottsville — The Pakatakan Farmers’ Market will host its annual Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Round Barn on Route 30, Halcottsville.
Vendors for this annual event will be regulars from the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market that operates on Saturdays from May through mid-October at the historic Round Barn.


Franciscan Reconciliation at Halcottsville church

The Franciscan Community of Reconciliation, a religious community in the Catholic Apostolic Church of North America, will be conducting a Chapter of Mats at Holy Innocents Church in Halcottsville from October 3 through 5. Franciscan Friars from Florida, Virginia, New Jersey and New York will hold both business meetings and liturgical services. Bishop Francisco Betancourt, FCR, co-pastor of Holy Innocents and the Minister General of the community invites the public to join the friars at all the services.
