Pottery demo Saturday at Market

Halcottsville — Robin Bruck-Tanner will be demonstrating how she makes pottery on the potters’ wheel on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.


Marbling demo at market

Halcottsville — Val Wells will demonstrate paper marbling on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.
Val will marble paper by floating paint on seaweed, drawing patterns on the surface, and applying paper to pick up the pattern.


Beading, felting demos at market Saturday

Halcottsville — Beading and felting demonstrations will be offered at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market in Hal-cottsville on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. As part of the free activities, Sandy Valk will demonstrate how she combines fabrics and beading to create beautiful hats and bags.


Fabric dyeing demo Saturday at PFM

Halcottsville — Nat Thomas, noted local artist and textile craftsperson, will be
demonstrating some of his fabric dyeing techniques on Saturday, July 25 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market in Halcottsville.


Ed Schluter, Jr.

Edward R. Schluter Jr., 92, of Halcottsville passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.
He was born July 23, 1916 in Oyster Bay, the son of Edward R. and Lillian Puvogel Schluter.
He married Matilda Erb October 16, 1946, in Mehanicsville.
He had been a resident of Halcottsville since 1980 and a member of the Halcottsville Fire Department.
Ed was a captain in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was with the 78th division, 309th Regiment Cannon Company and was awarded the Bronze Star.
He was a self-employed contracting engineer.
Ed was an active member and past chief of Hicksville Fire Department as well as a founding member of the Firemaster Benevolent Association.


Wood turning demo Saturday at Market

Halcottsville — Joe Hartman will demonstrate the art of wood turning on Saturday, July 18 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.


Folk art carving demos Sat. July 11 at market

Deb Rendo will demonstrate folk art carving on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.


Leather smithing demos set Saturday at market

Halcottsville — Liza Belle Burke of the “Lost Art of Living” in Margaretville will demonstrate custom leather smithing on Saturday, July 4 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Pakatakan Farmers’ Market at the Round Barn in Halcottsville.
The custom crafted sandals and accessories of Liza Belle Leather appeal to both the functional needs of the Catskill locals and the fashion sense of the shopper from the big city.


Artisans' Guild plans farmers' market demos

Halcottsville — The Catskill Mountain Artisans’ Guild will offer a series of artist demonstrations at the “Pakatakan Farmers’ Market” at the Round Barn in Halcottsville on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-noon., beginning June 27.


Halcottsville Grange work gets boost from bank bucks

NBT Bank of Margaretville Vice President Caroljean Finch presented a $1,000 check to help fund the Halcottsville Grange Hall Restoration Project, an ongoing fund-raising effort to support renovations to the Wawaka Grange Hall in Halcottsville.
The hall, which has been a focal point of the Halcottsville hamlet for more than 100 years, was the first home of the Halcottsville Grange #350, established in 1875 as a local lodge of the National Grange of the Patrons of Husbandry, an educational and political action society for farmers.
