Northlands in Fleischmanns sold

The owner of the Northland Motel in Fleischmanns has sold the property.
Rocky Kalra owned and operated the Northland, located on Main Street in the heart of the village, for eight years before selling it to the owners of the nearby Flagstone Motel. The sale closed on June 1.

The sale occurred after the Flagstone owners made an offer on the property, which Kalra said had not been listed for sale.
But when he saw the offer, a figure he did not disclose, he took it.


Ballplayers raise more than $10K for Fleischmanns park

Times are tough. Money is scarce. Scare for even the essentials let alone other wishes.
So, what to do when you need some money, thousands of dollars actually, to fulfill a dream of a new playground?

Play Ball!!!!
And play for a long, long time.

That is exactly what the Mountain Athletic Club (MAC) did on Memorial Day weekend.


Fleischmanns Street Fair this Saturday

Fleischmanns — This Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 28, Fleischmanns will once again host a village-wide celebration and street fair, with more music and vendors than ever before. 
Fleischmanns’ Main Street will be filled Saturday with sidewalk vendors and live music in the gazebo. Grownups and kids alike can enjoy old-fashioned horse carriage rides. Over in Wagner Avenue Park, an all-weekend vintage baseball marathon to raise money for the playground will continue throughout the day.


Bernice Lewis to appear at Skene

Fleischmanns — Bernice Lewis will perform at Skene Memorial Library in Fleischmanns on Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m.  

Her concerts provide a nice mix of music, including wonderful pieces about the Grand Canyon, hilarious looks at modern life, accounts of her travels, and some heart-wrenching songs about her heritage.  (Her father was a Holocaust survivor.)   


Fleischmanns Code Officer condemns firehouse

The old Fleischmanns Firehall on Main Street has been declared an unsafe structure.
According to Fleischmanns Code Enforcement Officer Carl Patrick Davis, the owner has six months to make repairs.

Davis told the News Tuesday that the damage was discovered after owner Boyd Walker applied to the MARK Project for a matching grant to rehabilitate the structure. As a part of the grant process, MARK officials had an engineer check the structure out in order to make sure that it was structurally sound and could be rehabilitated.


Fleischmanns gearing up for holiday weekend events

Fleischmanns — This Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 28, Fleischmanns will once again host a village-wide celebration worthy of its festive history as a gateway to summertime fun in the Catskills.

On Saturday, May 28, the entire Main Street will be bustling with vendors and live entertainment, vintage baseball will be swinging  away in Wagner Avenue ballpark, Fleischmanns’ Museum of Memories will open for the season, and Skene Memorial Library holds its annual book sale. Grownups and kids alike can enjoy old-fashioned horse carriage rides, too.


Fleischmanns theater ownership still in limbo

The fate of the Fleischmanns Theater remains tangled up in the courts.

That is the word from Village Mayor Dave Morell, who with the village’s board of trustees took action two years ago to seize ownership of the long-vacant venue after the owners had not paid property taxes for several years.


No tax hikes in Fleischmanns budget

For the second year in a row, the Fleischmanns Village Budget will not bring any tax increaes for property owners.

“No tax increases…..again” was all Mayor David Morell said proudly at Monday night’s meeting of the village board of trustees.

The budget however, is not yet etched in stone. It will be the subject at a public hearing next Monday, May 2, beginning at 5:10 p.m. The hearing, to be held in the Skene Memorial Library, follows a 4pm workshop where trustees will discuss the spending plan and possibly make some changes to it.


Fleischmanns mayor wins squeaker

Incumbent Fleischmanns Mayor Dave Morell has been elected to another term, edging challenger Fred Woller by four votes in Tuesday’s balloting. Mayor Morell received 37 votes to 33 ballots cast in favor of Mr. Woller, who serves as a village trustee. The mayor is just completing his first term in office.

Two incumbents were seeking re-election at trustees. Todd Pascarella received 45 votes and Ben Fenton earned 44 votes.

In the Village of Margaretville, Bill Stanton was elected mayor with 71 votes. Carol O’Beirne received eight write-in votes for mayor.


Fleischmanns mayoral race to be decided next Tuesday

One local mayor faces a challenge, while a former mayor is seeking his old job in village elections on Tuesday, March 15.

In Fleischmanns, five-year Trustee Fred Woller is running against incumbent Mayor Dave Morell.
Mayor Morell was elected to his current post two years ago.

Also on the ballot in Fleischmanns will be two incumbent trustees, Todd Pascarella and Benjamin Fenton. They are both running without opposition.
