Former Fleischmanns school lost to fire

By Brian Sweeney
A piece of village history was lost Wednesday morning as a large section of the former Fleischmanns High School was destroyed by fire.

Volunteers were alerted to the scene shortly before 4 a.m. and found that fire had already spread to a good portion of the village landmark. The two-story original section of the building was constructed in 1928. A ground-level section had also been utilized by the schools. A brick addition, built in 1936, was left mostly intact, but sustained considerable damage from heat, water and smoke.

The fate of the Fleischmanns Theater remains tangled up in the courts.
