Fleischmanns Street Fair planned for Saturday, May 29

Fleischmanns — This Memorial Day Weekend, Saturday May 29, Fleischmanns will once again host a village-wide celebration worthy of its festive history as a gateway to summertime fun in the Catskills. On Saturday, May 29, the entire Main Street will be bustling with vendors and tag sales, vintage baseball in the Wagner Avenue ballpark, the season opening of the Museum of Memories, and Skene Library’s annual book sale.


4th annual Team Trivia Challenge tested knowledge and raised funds

The fifth Team Trivia Challenge occurred at The Roxbury Arts Group’s Hilt Kelly Hall on Saturday, May 1. The fund-raiser is held annually to benefit the restoration of the historic Fleischmanns United Methodist Church, also known as the Fleischmanns Community Church.


Corridor update in Fleischmanns

This month’s meeting of Central Catskills Collaborative will feature a presentation by the Fleischmanns Byway Group as part of the Route 28 Scenic Byway Nomination process at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 25 at the Skene Memorial Library, Main Street, Fleischmanns.


Village election results for Fleischmanns, Margaretville

In the local elections held Tuesday night in the villages of Fleischmanns and Margaretville, four incumbent trustees retained their positions despite challenges.


Arkville and Fleischmanns input sought

The MARK Project is seeking input from business people and owners of mixed use buildings in Arkville and Fleischmanns for applications to the NY Main Street Program. An informational meeting is planned for Arkville business people and owners of mixed use and civic buildings on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. at Casey Joe’s Coffeehouse on Route 28.


MCS gets grant for 1,000 Books program

Margaretville Central School announced last week that it received a $4,000 matching grant from The A. Lindsay and Olive B. O’Connor Foundation to implement an early childhood literacy program called The 1,000 Books Program in cooperation with Fairview Public Library in Margaretville and Skene Memorial Library in Fleischmanns. According to MCS Head Librarian Pat Moore, the hope is to have the program up and running this spring.


Harriet Grossman appointed to Fleischmanns Board post

Village resident Harriet Grossman has been appointed by the Fleischmanns Village Board to fill a vacancy created last October by the death of Trustee Malcolm Becker. Grossman had been a trustee for four years prior to an unsuccessful re-election bid in March when incumbent Martin Moralis was re-elected and voters ushered in newcomer Todd Pascarella to a trustee’s seat. That election also saw David Morell win the mayor’s job.


Fleischmanns residents win big in Lottery game for second time

For the second time in a little more than two years, a Fleischmanns family has struck it rich playing the New York State Lottery. Philip and Tracy Auchmoody took home a $45,000 prize in the Dec. 27 Win Four drawing. It was a great feeling for the couple, but the prize was dwarfed by the $1 million winning ticket that the Auchmoodys held in the Lottery’s Extravaganza game in November 2007.


Fleischmanns Board appeals theater foreclosure ruling

The Fleischmanns Village Board has filed an appeal of last month’s court ruling which said that the owner of the Main Street Fleischmanns Theater building, or the bank that holds the mortgage on the building, has a right to pay past due village taxes and maintain ownership of the property.
At a village board meeting Monday evening, Fleischmanns Mayor Dave Morell said, “We have filed an appeal.”
