Arkville Water District loan to be repaid early

A long-term loan for the Arkville Water District will be paid off seven years early through utilization of a fund balance.

The Middletown Town Board, which oversees the district, voted last week to apply district funds to pay $55,000 remaining on a long-term loan.


Family escapes from burning Arkville home

A house on Erpf Road, Arkville was damaged by fire on Wednesday night.
The 911 call alerted firefighters that a bed was on fire, but when volunteers arrived, they found flames coming from four windows on the first floor.


Fire damage minimal at vacant Arkville house

A vacant home on Dry Brook Road, Arkville sustained only minor damage from a fire last Tuesday evening. The fire at a house owned by William Pyles started on an enclosed back porch. The porch was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, but they were able to bring the blaze under control in about 10 minutes.


ARC volunteers raise funds for Salvation Army

Arkville — Folks from The Arc of Delaware County’s (Delarc) Community Living Skills Center in Arkville raised $251 from Thanksgiving to Christmas for the Salvation Army by ringing the bells.

Arkville business owners making plans for hamlet improvements

More than 20 Arkville business owners and organizational leaders turned out for a public meeting last Thursday to express interest in seeking funds to improve the hamlet’s appearance. The MARK Project, a community economic development agency, organized the meeting at Casey Joe’s Coffeehouse. The focus of the session was to determine if business representatives were interested in MARK seeking grants to make improvements in Arkville.


Arkville and Fleischmanns input sought

The MARK Project is seeking input from business people and owners of mixed use buildings in Arkville and Fleischmanns for applications to the NY Main Street Program. An informational meeting is planned for Arkville business people and owners of mixed use and civic buildings on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. at Casey Joe’s Coffeehouse on Route 28.


Arkville family overwhelmed by support after losing everything to fire last Tuesday

Late last Wednesday afternoon, Arkville resident Jim Gauntt was on his way to Hunter-Tannersville to watch his son, Sean, play in Margaretville’s JV basketball game. Before tip-off, however, he was headed back home, having learned from his son’s coach that his house was on fire.


Bonds authorized for Arkville Water District project

A resolution authorizing nearly $1.8 million in serial bonds to pay for Arkville Water District upgrades was approved December 8 by the Middletown Town Board.
The project to expand and renovate the Arkville Water District was initiated several years ago. Last December, after a series of public meetings, the town board voted to proceed with the project.


"Old Bat Factory" to be auctioned Dec. 5

Arkville — “The Old Bat Factory,” an Arkville property that served for many years as a preparation facility for Louisville Slugger baseball bats, will be put up for public auction on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m.
